5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), also known as oxitriptan, is a naturally occurring amino acid and
chemical precursor as well as a metabolic intermediate in the biosynthesis of the neurotransmitter serotonin.
Its derived from the the seeds of the Griffonia simplicifolia plant, a woody 3m high climbing shrub native to
Africa that bears greenish flowers followed by black seed pods.
5-HTP is used for insomnia, depression, anxiety, migraine and tension-type headaches, fibromyalgia,
obesity, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), seizures, sexual disorders, and Parkinson's disease.
Whats the dosage?
Take 1 - 3 capsules per day as required, or as directed by your health care professional. 5-HTP has been used safely in doses up to 400 mg daily for up to one year.
What does it contain?
Each capsule contains 100mg of pure 5-htp, with the co-factors niacin (vitamin B3) and pydoxine (vitamin B6), and the bioavailability enhancer, black pepper.
Why is it mixed with those other ingredients?
Without that the body would not adsorb much of the 5-htp and you would not get any benefits.
Is there any drug interactions?
Do not take 5-HTP if you are taking medications for depression including Prozac, or serotonin altering drugs like Tramadol.
